the highlights on the gills are a really nice touch since they give it an interesting texture and a scaly texture. the subtle highlighting is supprisingly effective in building up form, esspecially in the face while the lack of extream difference in the tones really helps the bold outlines stand out. areas such as those dark eyelids acts as a happy medium between the two, alowwing this two very different elements to sit comfortably with one another.
the splatters of blue and green add a real sense of colour despite the fact they're so sparingly used. that combined with that large upper lip and the rills on his arm really do contribute to that fish-like look going on here.
